Dean Allmark regains Superslam title

Title quartet (l to r): Dean Allmark, Robbie Dynamite, James Mason and Sam Adonis.

THE most dramatic night in Superslam Championship wrestling history started with the title vacant – then it changed hands twice in little mroe than an hour! Robbie Dynamite emerged as winner of a battle of nominated leading contenders against James Mason but before the end of a Rhyl Town Hall programme on 30 August Dean Allmark had regained the title he last held in 2014. The explosive action followed a previously reported decision to strip Sam Adonis of the belt after he failed to make a defence in British rings through a period of six months and Allmark was able to make his bid after defeating Welsh tank Caden Lay in a ‘Money in the Bank’ open challenge earlier in the evening. It was still a surprise for the Rhyl fans when Deano returned to the ring after Dynamite scored a controversial victory and announced he was immediately cashing-in his open contract and wanted to face the Potteries powerhouse there and then. These long-standing rivals threw everything into a memorable match and Dynamite’s short reign ended after when Allmark’s arm was raised in victory with congratulations from former lightweight legend Johnny Saint. The Rhyl triumph marked the start of a hectic spell for Allmark who heads for Japan later this month before returning for a busy October date list. And, of course, American globetrotter Sam Adonis, currently on an extended tour in Mexico insists he will be returning in October to launch a fresh challenge.

THE Superslam Championship Belt, British wrestling’s most prestigious award, will be suspended 25 feet above the ring at Basildon’s Towgate Theatre when recently crowned title holder Dean Allmark and world renowned contender Doug Williams meet in an All Star Promotions ‘Ladder Match’ main event title showdown on Friday 16 September. Normal falls and submissions will be forgotten and the winner will be the first man to subdue his rival sufficiently to get a ladder through the ropes before climbing up to snatch the belt. Basildon fans look to be in for a fiercely competitive match as Kent-based Williams has enjoyed success on both sides of the North Atlantic including a lengthy run as TNA’s X Division champion and will be out to make the most of his vast experience and a weight advantage. Starting at 7.30pm the Basildon programme also features tag action involving two teams between whom there is considerable recent rivalry. The ‘London Riots’ pairing of 18 stones Rob Lynch and his 16 stones partner James Davis both stand over six feet in height and adopt a very direct approach while their opponents, the ‘DnD’ pairing of Ciaran Donnelly and Danny Duggan, make the most of speed and subtlety and have been picking up impressive results in recent months. There is a full supporting line-up and among wrestlers featured will be the Welsh tank Caden Kay and highly rated Victoria, London-based Josh Faulkner who has recently celebrated his 21st birthday. Tickets are now on sale at the Towngate Theatre box office telephone 01268-465465, and include a special £45 family offer covering two adults and two children under 16. All Star’s first date for new Southampton venue the Engine Rooms, originally planned for Saturday 24 September has been put back to the end of the year and will be re-arranged for December.
